Green Schools Program

Kennydale PTA is now partnering with the King County Green Schools Program, a program sponsored by King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks, Solid Waste Division.

With the help of the King Country Green Schools Program, Kennydale PTA plans to reach the 3 levels of recognition within the program:

  • Initiate and expand waste reduction and recycling practices and other conservation actions.
  • Involve the whole school community in environmental stewardship.
  • Operate environmentally efficient and responsible
    facilities.

We have already submitted an application to King County and it has been approved. With this application, we have a Green Team in place to begin our work towards level-one recognition, the first step in the program.

To gain level-one recognition, we, Kennydale Elementary, need to evaluate our waste/recycling levels with our assigned King County representative. This representative, along with King County Solid Waste division, will provide guidance and support to help us evaluate our waste levels, work through our recycling checklist, and observe our waste/recycling practices to provide further input into our daily routines.

The Green Schools Program will also provide us with supplies (up to $200) for food scrap collections.
